Marvel Rivals Tips & Tricks
Beginner Tips
Start with the Right Hero
Your first hero choice will shape your entire learning experience. We recommend starting with a Strategist (support) hero like Mantis or Luna Snow. Supporting your team teaches you map awareness, positioning, and game sense without the pressure of carrying.
Learn One Hero Per Role
Before branching out, master one hero in each role:
- Vanguard: Hulk (forgiving health pool, straightforward abilities)
- Duelist: Punisher (plays like a traditional FPS character)
- Strategist: Mantis (straightforward healing mechanics)
Stick With Your Team
Marvel Rivals is a team game. Going off alone almost always results in death. Stay within healing range of your supports and within line of sight of your tanks.
Best Settings
Controller / Mouse Sensitivity
- Mouse DPI: 800-1600 (lower is better for precision)
- In-Game Sensitivity: 3-5 (adjust until you can do a 180° turn with one full mouse swipe)
- Controller Aim Assist: On (Standard) — the game is balanced around it
Visual Settings
- Field of View (FOV):strong> 100-110 (higher FOV gives better peripheral vision)
- Damage Numbers: On — essential for tracking your effectiveness
- Enemy Outline Color: Red (most visible against most backgrounds)
- Teammate Outline Color: Blue
Turn on "Show Allied Health Bars" in the settings. As a support, seeing your teammates' health at all times is crucial. As any role, it helps you know when to retreat.
Advanced Mechanics
Team-Up Ability Timing
Team-Up Abilities are not always active. They require specific hero pairs and sometimes specific conditions. Learn which pairs work together and communicate with your team to activate them.
Ultimate Economy
Don't use your ultimate in a lost fight. The best time to use an ultimate is:
- At the start of a team fight (to gain advantage)
- When contesting an objective (to secure the point)
- To counter an enemy ultimate (to negate their advantage)
Destructible Environment
Walls and floors can be destroyed. Use this to:
- Create new angles for your team
- Destroy enemy cover
- Create escape routes
- Block chokepoints (as Groot or with explosive abilities)
Ranked Climbing
Role Queue Strategy
The matchmaking system enforces role queue. Be proficient in at least two roles to avoid being forced into uncomfortable positions.
Communication
Use the ping system constantly. Even if you're not using voice chat, pings can convey:
- Enemy positions
- Ultimate status
- Group up requests
- Retreat signals
Mental Game
- Take breaks after 2-3 losses in a row
- Focus on your own performance, not your teammates' mistakes
- Review your deaths — what could you have done differently?
- Warm up in Quick Play before ranked sessions
Common Mistakes
Chasing a low-health enemy into their backline is the #1 cause of death. If you can't secure the kill within 3 seconds, retreat.
Kills don't win games — objectives do. A team with 20 kills but 0 objective time will lose to a team with 5 kills but full objective control.
If you're being countered, switch. The game allows hero swaps mid-match for a reason. A hard counter can make even the best player useless.
